Relive Imaging was engaged to cover the 2021 student ball that was held at the optus stadium.
My brief for this was fairly loose and was basically to get some shots of the award winners and some random shots of people enjoying themselves. So that gave me plenty of scope to drop into the background and look for opportunities to get some great candid shots.

I was told that a small backdrop would be set up at the entrance to the ballroom and some people may request to be photographed here. It was fortunate that I had chosen to bring some off camera lighting, so I had more flexability than the available down lights, that are usually far from flattering.
The popularity of this impromptu studio was a lot more than I or the Guild organisers envisaged but in the end it’s always great fun to photograph people who want to be photographed.

After the formalities of taking the required photos of the award winners I was pretty much left to my own devices…

With the formal part of the evening over I was able to slink around unobtrusively looking for some great candied shots. Even with some incredibly challenging lighting conditions and shooting only with available light, I was really happy with the images that I could deliver to the Guild.

I began to think about leaving and giving everybody the chance to let their hair down without worrying about being photographed, then I stepped out into the open from a corporate box to find these guys taking a break and maybe contemplating the AFL Grand Finale that had happened only the week before.
